Se unen clínicas privadas para impulsar el “turismo médico”

Salen a buscar turistas para que se operen en el país
La Argentina sale a seducir pacientes por el mundo.
El lunes se lanzará el primer programa público-privado para promocionar al país como destino para recibir diferentes tratamientos médicos.
El plan, al que tuvo acceso Clarín, fue acordado entre el Instituto Nacional de Promoción Turística (Inprotur), que está formado por el Gobierno, el Consejo Federal de Turismo, y la cámara empresarial del sector, junto con hospitales y clínicas privadas, que realizan bypass cardíacos, cirugías plásticas, implantes dentales y operaciones de ojos, entre otras intervenciones.
Después de la crisis de 2001, en nuestro país había crecido la llegada de turistas que combinan las visitas a las Cataratas del Iguazú o al glaciar Perito Moreno con una pasada por un quirófano argentino, para hacerse un lifting o para aumentarse el busto.
“En la actualidad, el país recibe 6.000 turistas extranjeros que vienen también por atención médica”, dijo a Clarín el director ejecutivo del Inprotur, Leonardo Boto.
“Queremos aumentar el número de turistas e hicimos un acuerdo con hospitales y clínicas que ofrecen excelencia médica.
A través de este plan sostenido de promoción del país en el exterior, estimamos que podemos llegar a recibir 90.000 pacientes por año en 2012″, agregó.
A la iniciativa, ya se sumaron los hospitales Alemán, Austral, Italiano, el Instituto Cardiovascular de Buenos Aires, las clínicas Nano, Robles, Dental House, Aesteticup, Fundación Favaloro y el Fleni, entre otros.
Hasta ahora, había varias instituciones, como centros de cirugía plástica, de odontología o clínicas de fertilidad, que con facilitadores en los países desarrollados captaban a extranjeros para que sean tratados en el país.
Para este público, la atención en la Argentina supondrá “ahorro económico, menores esperas en los tratamientos, servicios de calidad, y un destino turístico atractivo”, sostuvo Boto.
“Si a esas ventajas le agregamos que tenemos mayor cercanía cultural con Europa y los Estados Unidos en comparación con los países asiáticos que también se postulan para el turismo médico, la Argentina sale favorecida”.
Un informe de la consultora Deloitte publicado en 2008 señala que el turismo médico mueve en todo el mundo 60 mil millones de dólares.
Está incentivado por diversos motivos: el sistema sanitario no garantiza la atención para todos en los Estados Unidos, los servicios médicos europeos a veces no son eficientes y los países en desarrollo ofrecen la posibilidad de recorrer lugares exóticos.
El estudio también indicaba que dos de cada cinco estadounidenses estaban dispuestos a viajar para atenderse en el exterior si el costo era la mitad y la calidad al menos igual.
Entre los países que son destino de turistas en busca de salud están Brasil, Costa Rica, India, Malasia, México, Panamá, Filipinas, Sudáfrica, Tailandia, Turquía y, claro, Argentina.
Desde el punto de vista de los médicos argentinos, hay diferencias de opinión. “Me parece correcto que se promocione a la Argentina como un destino del turismo médico -sostuvo María Luisa Rijana, cirujana plástica y presidente de la Asociación Argentina de Clínica Estética-. Implicará un crecimiento para el país. Tenemos muy buenos médicos.
También los costos son baratos para los extranjeros.
Por supuesto, requerirá que la atención a los pacientes extranjeros se haga con seriedad”.
En cambio, Alberto Agrest, miembro de la Academia Nacional de Medicina y autor del libro “Ser médico, ayer, hoy y mañana”, consideró que el turismo médico “es sólo un negocio más que se aprovecha de la irracionalidad de la gente.
En el futuro, irán a la Luna o a Marte tratarse”.
Este prestigioso profesional opinó que “el turismo extranjero le da a los médicos el contacto con pacientes de otras culturas.
Pero no habría que olvidar la importancia de brindarles la información adecuada antes de hacer intervenciones en el cuerpo, y hacer su seguimiento.
No deberían dejar que la vocación se vuelva parte de una feria médica”.
